Eleanor C. (Smeja) Pupa

Whitinsville—Eleanor (Smeja) (Boduch) Pupa, “GG”,  died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the Saint Camillus Health Center while surrounded by her loving family.  She was 95.  She is survived by her daughter Donna (Boduch) Sanford and her husband Robert; granddaughters Amanda (Amy) Sanford and Andrea (Sanford) LaChapelle and her husband Jess, 4 great grandchildren, Emma, Jake, Joel and Evan LaChapelle, and nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Edward W. Boduch in 1963 and Thaddeus Pupa in 1997, and her sisters, Lorraine Schwabe and Virginia Brusenbach. 

Eleanor was born August 6, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of William and Cecelia (Jurkiewicz) Smeja.  She was a 1942 graduate of Alvernia High School.  While living in Illinois, she was a model, buyer at Marshall Fields department store,  a long distance operator for Illinois Bell, and also a poll worker for many years.  Eleanor enjoyed Mahjong, playing cards, Bingo with friends, and other activities at various senior centers, whether in Illinois or after she moved to Massachusetts in 2005.  She loved travelling, fishing and boating.  She enjoyed crafting, dancing and playing the piano.  She was a phenomenal cook and member of the Red Hat Society.  Eleanor especially loved and enjoyed her great grandchildren. 

Calling Hours, from 10-12 Noon, in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, are Monday, January 22, followed by a Memorial Service at Noon.  Burial at a later date will be in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery in Nile, Illinois.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
