Trena DeJong Obituary

Trena Mae DeJong, age 86, passed away February 7, 2024, at McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, MA, surrounded by her family.

Trena was born October 7, 1937, to the late Albert and Tillie (Miedema) DeJong, of Whitinsville. One of eight siblings, she was predeceased by her brothers Allard, Gerald, and Donald DeJong, and her sisters, Eleanor Meyer and Gertrude VanderBrug.

Educated at Whitinsville Christian School and Northbridge High School, she lived in Whitinsville most of her life. In 2010, she moved to Hyannis to be next to her nephew, Kevin Schouler and his family. She resided there for the last 13 years.

Ms. DeJong dedicated 40 years of service to Norton Company. She loved to travel, and she visited many destinations around the world. She took helicopter rides to land on glaciers, white water rafted, and floated on river boats in Russia, to name a few of her adventures.

Amazingly talented, she spent years crafting gorgeous quilts, wall hangings, afghans, needlepoint and embroidery masterpieces. She belonged to the Blackstone Valley Heritage Quilt Guild for years as well as 2 guilds on Cape Cod. Over time, she’s donated many of her special works to charity.

Trena's kind and generous heart and warm smile will be greatly missed. She leaves her siblings, Phyllis Schouler of Hyannis, and John DeJong of Aberdeen, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graveside service will be held in her honor on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11:00AM, at Riverdale Cemetery in Northbridge. All are welcome to attend.
