Barbara Lightbown Obituary

Barbara M. (Spratt) Lightbown, 92, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Irving W. Lightbown, in 2015. Born on August 20, 1931, in Oxford, MA, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Katherine (Mercak) Spratt. Barbara was a graduate of Northbridge High School; after graduating she went on to work at the former Whitin Machine Works and later at the Balmer Elementary School cafeteria, in Northbridge. She was a member of Saint Patrick's Church. Barbara's grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy and love of her life.

She is survived by her sons Brian J. Lightbown, of Whitinsville, and Kevin and his wife Alexandra Lightbown, of Douglas; two brothers, Charles Spratt, of Whitinsville, and Richard Spratt, of Douglas; a sister Margaret Nadeau, of Southborough; and five grandchildren: Ashely, Alyssa, Shanda, Kayla, Luke, and 4 great grandchildren: Quincy, Delaney, Keva, and Dalton. Barbara was predeceased by four sisters: Nancy O'Neill, Jane Coyle, Eleanor Kortecamp, and Josephine Rice. 

Barbara's funeral services and burial at Saint Patrick's Cemetery will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts, 320 Nevada St., Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460
