Bernard E. Howard

WHITINSVILLE ... Bernard E. "Bunny" Howard, 96, died Saturday, November 25, in the Saint Camillus Health Center. His wife, Jeannette (Courtemanche) Howard, died in 2015. He is survived by two sons, Stephen E. Howard, and his wife, Pamela, of Charlotte, NC, and Kenneth F. Howard, and his wife, Jayne, of Douglas; a daughter, Donna Lange, and her husband, Kurt, of Whitinsville; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Adams, of Ware. He was predeceased  by brothers Leonard and Donald Howard, and his sister, Doris Shugrue.

Mr. Howard was born in Whitinsville, January 23, 1921, a son of Frank and Edith (Greaves) Howard, and lived here most of his life. He was a  1939 graduate of Northbridge High School. He worked at the former Whitin Machine Works, as a gear cutter, for many years.

Mr. Howard served in the Army Air Corps, during World War II. A Technical Sergeant, he earned three battle stars, in Europe,  at the Rhineland and Normandy.

He was a member of Saint Patrick's Church in Whitinsville, and the Mumford Council, Knights of Columbus. An outstanding baseball player in his youth, Bunny was a member of the Northbridge High School Athletic Hall Of Fame.

Mr. Howard's Calling Hours will be 4-6 pm, Tuesday, November 28, in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville. Funeral Services will be private. Memorial donations are requested to the Memory Care Unit at the Saint Camillus Health Center, 447 Hill Street, Whitinsville, MA, 01588.
