WHITINSVILLE ... Carl R. Nickerson, Jr., 100, died September 15, in the Southbridge Rehab and Health Care Center. His wife of 65 years, Gracia (Chapdelaine) Nickerson, died in 2010. He is survived by three granddaughters, Gracia Casey and her husband, Michael, Bonnie Kimball and her fiancé, Chet Soska, and Sonya Robinson, and her husband, Robert; four great grandchildren, Michael and Meighan Casey, and Amethyst and Anastasia Robinson; and his son-in-law, Dennis Kimball, all of Whitinsville. He was predeceased by his daughter, Gail Kimball, and brother, Norman Nickerson.

Mr. Nickerson was born in Everett, December 3, 1916, a son of Carl and Anna (Abrahamson) Nickerson. He grew up in Malden and graduated from Malden High School. He lived in Upton for most of his life prior to moving here 16 years ago.

Following service in the United States Army, he worked at Fenwall Corp for many years, retiring as factory manager.

A veteran of World War II, he was wounded during the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

A man of great faith, Mr. Nickerson was a member of the Cornerstone Church in North Uxbridge, and previously attended the Uxbridge Church of the Nazarene, and 1st Assembly in Worcester. He belonged to the George Wood Post, VFW, in Upton. He was an accomplished sewer, and enjoyed gardening and playing the guitar. The cornerstones of his life were his family, faith and music.

Mr. Nickerson's Funeral Service will be held at 10am, Saturday, September 23, in the Cornerstone Church, preceded by a Calling Hour from 9-10am. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.
