Douglas--Raymond W. Jenkins, 77, died Saturday, January 27, at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center, after a period of declining health. The only son of William and Melina (John) Jenkins, Raymond was born December 4, 1940, in Douglas where he graduated in 1958 from Douglas High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a swift boat gunner during Viet Nam and retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. Ray worked at Data General in Westborough as a security guard until his retirement in 1997. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed attending Navy reunions.
Ray is survived by two sisters; Lorretta White, of Northbridge and Lorraine Bisner, of Biloxi, MS, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours, are Thursday, February 1, from 9-10:30 AM. Raymond's Funeral Mass is Thursday, February 1, at 11AM, in Saint Peter's Church, Northbridge. Burial will follow in Saint Denis Cemetery, Douglas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
