Bill was unique in a very positive way. I should know since we were roommates for the four years at Bates. I was lucky to room with Bill, since he provided insight, inspiration and appreciation for the Bates experience and beyond. He was never selfish but instead generous in so many ways. Bill, we will miss you, but your spirit will always be present...

Dear Mary and family,
I recently found out that Bill had passed away. I worked at Uxbridge High School in the early 1960's when Bill was there. And I remember seeing him occasionally at Carr family functions. And although it has been a long time since I have seen him, and belated thought it may be, I offer all of you my sincerest condolences.

Mrs. Hayes, Billy, Joe and Vicky. I just learned of your Dad's passing and I am so sorry for the sad news. Your Dad was a great, funny guy. And actually my 1st employer. He would pay me $20 each week to cut the grass at your house. And he would always try and get me to switch from playing hockey to playing football because I was a big kid. He would always tell me that football was way cooler of a sport to play. Your Dad was a great guy!! Take care.

Mary,
We were all very sad to hear of Bill's passing. We will all miss him. I always enjoyed listening to his stories about your boys growing up and playing hockey. He always had a kind word, or a friendly wave hello for me and my family whenever we saw him.
And please do not hesitate to ask us for help around the house and yard. Nick and Mike would be glad to help in any way.
Sincerely,
Dave and Christina

Papa Bill will be missed dearly. He was a caring and generous grandfather. One of his great gifts was teaching and his passion for learning. We are grateful that he shared his gift with us. He taught our daughter how to ride her bike. He told her to "climb the stairs" and taught her many other things during our visits. It was so precious seeing them together. I do wish we had more time, especially with our son. He will always be with us and we will continue to pass stories of Papa Bill on to our children.

My condolences to all. I taught at Algonquin, starting in 1966, so was a colleague of Bill's for a few years. I did not know Bill that well but always enjoyed talking with him. He was a friendly, caring individual. However, more than just being a consummate professional and a former social studies teacher, Bill was a skilled negotiator and left a great legacy for me and all other Algonquin teachers: one of the best contracts in the state. Collective bargaining had just begun in the early 1960's. Bill was on that committee for the teachers. I thank him. May he rest in peace.

Dear Mary and all of Bill's family,
Bill was a classmate at Bates and I was so well aware of the respect and esteem in which all his classmates held him. I am so glad that we all were able to share such pleasant recent reunion times at the college - - the stories - - the memories revived - - the laughter - - the genuine care given and received. I am thankful all our paths crossed for we are so enriched because of it. You have my deepest compassion!
