Arthur J. Atsma Obituary

Arthur J. Atsma, died Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Beaumont in Westborough, after a period of declining health.  He leaves four brothers: Andrew Atsma and Roland Atsma, both of Whitinsville; Martin Atsma, of Hopedale; Richard Atsma, of Whitinsville; a sister Anita MacIntyre and her husband Gary, of Douglas; and 6 nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother Paul Atsma in 2012.

Born in the Netherlands July 17, 1951, to the late Bart and Linda (Veenstra) Atsma, Arthur moved to Massachusetts as a young child, first to Barre, and later to Northbridge.  He lived in Northbridge until moving to Blackstone several years ago.

Throughout his life, Arthur enjoyed swimming whether at the Whitin Community Center or at the community pool in Milford during summers. For more than 20 years Arthur participated in programs through Crossroads Clubhouse, in Hopedale, and prior to that with Alternatives Unlimited.  He loved animals, especially bobcats and housecats, and squirrels.  Most every day he feed the backyard squirrels, to the point that when he went outside with food, the squirrels would run up to him for their treats.

At the wish of Arthur and his family, there are no scheduled services.  Memorial donations may be made to Crossroads Clubhouse, 11 Williams Street, Hopedale, MA 01747
