Burt William Newell, 81, of Youngsville, NC, passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Dianne (Bergeron) Newell; his three children, daughter Lisa Balcom wife of Thomas Balcom of Kiawah, SC, Michael Newell, and Christopher Newell of Johns Island, SC; two stepchildren, Katie Howland Reader and Kevin Kroll of Raleigh, NC; and nine cherished grandchildren, Olivia McMillan, Alexandra Balcom, David Balcom, Chloe Newell, Madeline Howland, Cameron Howland, Lauren Howland, Ashlynn Reader, and Aiden Kroll. Burt was also the proud great-grandfather of Langdon McMillan.

Born in Cambridge, MA, on April 4, 1943, Burt was the son of Bertrand and Mary (Daley) Newell. He grew up in Uxbridge, MA, where he graduated from Uxbridge High School in 1962, excelling in sports as a four-letter athlete in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. After high school, Burt proudly served in the National Guard. He remained an avid tennis player throughout his life, participating in the Uxbridge tennis league. Burt had a long career as a truck driver, working for Conway Central Express until his retirement in 2005. Afterward, he and Dianne relocated to Virginia Beach, VA, where Burt worked in food services at Creeds Elementary School until his second retirement in 2012. In 2018, they moved to Youngsville, NC, following Dianne's retirement.

A passionate fan of Boston sports teams, Burt also supported Notre Dame and Penn State college football. He loved cooking for his family and friends, always with a smile and a witty remark to share. Known for his welcoming nature, Burt made everyone feel at home, especially his grandchildren, who he adored. A proud Irishman, Burt's favorite holiday was St. Patricks Day, which he celebrated with enthusiasm.

 Burt will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His spirit, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Burt’s funeral service will be private at convenience of his family.
