Elliot C. Brown, III, 75, died Friday, July 7, in South Shore Hospital, Weymouth. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Evans, and two grandchildren, Zoe and Aiden Evans, of Sutton; and two brothers, Douglas Brown, of Marshfield, and Michael Brown, of Plymouth. His wife, Karen (Shannon) Brown, died in 2020.
Mr. Brown was born in Springfield, October 7, 1945, a son of Elliot C. Brown, II, and Lucille (Hatton) Brown. He graduated from Weymouth High School, and lived in Whitinsville and Framingham before moving to Sutton 36 years ago.
He was a technical writer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 20 years, and previously was a tobacco control officer for the state and several communities. With his wife, Karen, he owned the Sober Camel Bookstore in Milford for many years.
Mr. Brown was an active member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Westborough, and previously belonged to the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church in Whitinsville. Active in Alcoholics Anonymous, he was a Friend of Bill more than 40 years, and for 36 years, he volunteered at the Cape Cod Symposium for Addiction Disorders.. Known as the "Button Man", Elliot enjoyed making promotional and special occasion buttons. He collected camels, and he enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas.
Mr. Brown's Funeral Service will be a joint service, honoring both he and his wife, Karen, at 11am, Saturday, July 31, in the Westborough 1st United Methodist Church, preceded by visitation, at the church, from 10-11am.Memorial Donations are requested to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 20 Prospect Street, Milford, MA, 01757.
