Florence Elizabeth Lewis died peacefully Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the home of her sister-in-law. She leaves her sister-in-law Carol Lewis, of Whitinsville; nephews Gregory V. Lewis and his wife Angela, of Lilburn, GA and William A. Lewis, III and his wife Meredith, of Worcester; a niece Tracy Christine Lewis, of Lawrenceville, GA;4 great nephews: Gregory, Carmeron, Cedric and Will; 2 great nieces Aisha and Alysha; and 3 great-great nephews: Terrell, Theodore and Kaiden. She was predeceased by her brother William A. Lewis, Jr., in 2013.
The daughter of the late William A. and Emily (Barron) Lewis, Sr., Florence was born March 29, 1930. She was born in Cambridge, where she lived until moving to Whitinsville in 2022. She was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School.
After high school, Florence worked several years for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue before she began a more than 50-year career with the Wang Theater (Boch Center). She retired in 2019 as Head Usher. She was a member of the Jazz Society, and enjoyed attending numerous jazz performances locally and internationally, and traveled with the society to see various musicians play. Her other pastimes included photography, Flamenco dancing. knitting, and watching game shows. She was a former member of the St. Paul's AME Methodist Church in Cambridge, where she served as secretary.
Burial at Cambridge Cemetery will be announced in Fall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Healing Heart Hospitality House, 85 Lake Ave. North, Worcester, MA 01605. Please reference Florence Lewis on checks.
