George Gigarjian, 87, died Thursday, December 30, in the UMass Memorial Medical Center. He is survived by two sons, George J. Gigarjian, of Santa Cruz, CA, and Stephen M. Gigarjian, of Sutton; two daughters, Christine Colonero, and her husband, Gerald, of Douglas, and Karen Melnick, and her husband, Peter, of Thompson, CT; six grandchildren, Natalie and Ryan Gigarjian, Aaron and Matthew Colonero, and Kate and Sarah Melnick, and a sister, Elizabeth Hobbs, of Anaheim, CA. He also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Nicholas and John "Chick" Gigarjian, and five sisters, Helen Gigarjian, Margaret Carella, Roxie Ryan, Nevart Santucci, and Ann Duso.
George was born in Whitinsville, November 14, 1934, a son of Hagop and Rose (Avakian) Gigarjian and was a lifelong resident. He was a 1953 graduate of Northbridge High School, and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
George retired after almost 50 years as a hairdresser, owning his own salon in Whitinsville for 30 years.
He was a member of Saint Patrick's Church in Whitinsville. A fitness buff, George was a familiar sight on his daily power walks through town. He enjoyed travel, the casino, and playing pitch at the Knights of Columbus. A devoted family man, George loved spending family vacations at the beach with his children and grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Wednesday, January 5, in Saint Patrick's Church, Cross Street, Whitinsville. Calling Hours will be 5-7pm, Tuesday, January 4, in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville. Masks are required at all services.
