Helen Stefanik Obituary

Helen E. (Kopeski) Stefanik, 100, passed away peacefully in the comfort of The Pavillion Rehab & Nursing Center in Hyannis on Monday, December 11, 2023. Helen loved unconditionally and lived her life with amazing strength, grace and laughter.

Born in Millville on July 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Kopeski and Sophia (Czesowski) Kopeski.

She is survived by her brother, Michael Kopeski, Sr. and her loving granddaughters, Debra Chamberlain and her husband, Michael of Hubbardston, Robyn Parker of Cotuit and Karyn Lukas and her husband, Jesse of West Yarmouth. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Richard Pelland of Cotuit and great-grandchildren, Katie, Mike, TJ, Lilly and Jesse and her great-great granddaughter, Kayla, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In Heaven, Helen is greeted by her husband John S. Stefanik whom she married in Millville, MA on June 24, 1946, her children, Nancy Ann Pelland and James Stefanik, her brothers, Edward Kopeski and Frank Kopeski Sr.,  sister, Anne (Kopeski) Witek and her great-grandson, Justin Parker.

Helen graduated from hairdressing school and met her husband John, and they raised their family in Chicago for 25 years where she worked as a hairdresser before returning home to Massachusetts. She worked as a personnel manager for the former Haywood Schuster Mills for 26 years and later worked as a nurse’s aide. She was devoted to her faith and loved spending her time outdoors gardening. She always enjoyed dancing, country music and travelling to Nashville and cherished spending time with her family. Helen’s greatest gift was her unconditional love of her family and friends and her quick-witted, sassy sense of humor. She is deeply missed.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 9-10:30 am at Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville, MA, with a Funeral Mass following at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Parish, 77 Mendon Street, Uxbridge, MA, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at The Pavillion for the love and care they provided to Helen for the final month of her life.
