Uxbridge--John Haig Karagosian, 91, died Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Inn at Fairview in Hudson, NH, after a short illness.  He leaves a son, John Karagosian and his wife Deborah, of Palm Harbor, FL, a daughter, Elizabeth Karagosian, M.D. and her partner Paul Gerry, of Nashua, NH; three grandchildren: Kristen, Michelle, and T.J.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Karagosian, of Whitinsville; and several nieces and nephews. In 2018, John was predeceased by Marcelyn (Greene) Karagosian, his beloved wife of 50 years.

John was born in Boston, October 4, 1932, son of Haig and Anna (Kazarian) Karagosian.  He grew up in Whitinsville, graduating from Northbridge High School in 1950. He was especially proud of his service in the US Air Force during the Korean War, prior to returning home to the Blackstone Valley and pursuing his education. He earned a bachelor's degree at Clark University and a master's degree at Framingham State College.  His 40-year career in education began in Uxbridge and Grafton: he ultimately retired from Auburn High School in 2001 after teaching there for 30 years.  He was active in the Auburn High School Football program, as well as other sports.

In 1967, John and Marcie moved to Uxbridge where they lived the rest of their lives.  He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and following Northbridge High School sports.  He was an avid reader and served as a Trustee of the Uxbridge Free Public Library.  He was a lifelong member of the Village Congregational Church in Whitinsville and a Mason.  John enjoyed the ocean, long walks, compiling meteorologic data and taking Sunday drives on local back roads.  He enjoyed having breakfast at Bert’s as well as daily walks to downtown Uxbridge where he stopped at Jumbo Donuts for coffee with friends, visited the ladies at Saver's Bank, and spent time at the library.

Calling Hours will be from 5-7PM, Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville.  A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 10AM, at the Village Congregational Church, 5 Church St., Whitinsville.  Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Village Congregational Church, PO Box 217, Whitinsville, MA 01588, or to the Uxbridge Free Public Library, 15 N. Main St., Uxbridge, MA 01569.
