Joseph Garabedian, Jr. Obituary

Joseph D.K. Garabedian, Jr. died peacefully at home of natural causes on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.  His wife, Mary (Baligian) Garabedian, died in 2009. He is survived by three daughters, Susan Palis and her husband, Michael, of Lancaster; Elaine Wheeler and her husband, Thornton, of Grafton; and Anita Garabedian of Whitinsville; four grandchildren, Sara and Stephanie Palis and Aaron and Marissa Wheeler; a brother, Richard Garabedian, of Hillsborough, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Garabedian.

Mr. Garabedian was born in Whitinsville on October 21, 1926, a son of Joseph and Aghavnie (Aharonian) Garabedian and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Northbridge High School in 1944, where he was a member of the Rams football team. He worked at the Whitin Machine Works for several years before joining his father in managing the family business, Garabedian Brothers in Whitinsville, a men's clothing store where he worked until retiring in 2005.  In addition to men's furnishings, the business sold Boy Scout and Girl Scout uniforms and supplies for many years.

A strong-spirited family man, Joe unselfishly lived for his children and grandchildren. He was a talented handyman and enjoyed growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables. He was also an avid reader and especially enjoyed history. In addition, he loved watching football and was a New England Patriots fan.
