Joyce E. (Hicks) Gallagher

Joyce E. (Hicks–Spearin) Gallagher, 80, of Whitinsville, MA, passed away on October 14, 2021,  in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. She leaves her beloved husband of 21 years, James S. Gallagher; her daughters, Sally Belanger, and husband Peter, of Uxbridge, MA; Donna Nolan, and husband James, of Milford, MA; her sons, Robert Spearin, and wife Linda, of Millville, MA; and Kevin Spearin, and wife Debra,  of Narragansett, RI. She also leaves her sister, Judy Hicks, wife of Jean Robb of Fremont, NH, and her brother Peter Hicks, and partner, Carrie Blake of Smithfield, RI; her grandchildren include Jennifer, Jamie, and Peter Belanger, Rachel Nolan, Rob, Jeremy, and Katie Spearin, Kory, Spencer, Jacob and Aaron Spearin, and her greatgrandchildren; Lilah, Rosie, and Felicity Spearin. Joyce is also leaving behind five stepchildren, 10 step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce was predeceased by her sisters, Beverly Whalen and Cheryl Quinn.

Joyce was born on January 21, 1941, in Eastport, ME, to the late Earl and Gertrude (Trott) Hicks. She was born and raised in Eastport and graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1959. She married Donald Spearin in 1961,  and moved to Milford, MA in 1965, where they raised their four kids. She worked at Waters Corporation for 28 years and retired in 2005.

Joyce was an avid ten pin bowler and ballroom dancer.  She enjoyed sewing, playing cards with friends, travelling, and spending time with her family.  She was very active in scouting in the 1970’s and was an active member of the Friends of Northbridge Elders (FINE) and the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church (BVUMC). She was a member of the Frohsinn Club where she enjoyed dancing with her husband Jim.

Calling Hours are Monday, October 25, 2021 from 9-11AM, in the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church, followed by her Funeral at 11AM.  Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery.  Please access the church parking lot and entrance via Church Street, Whitinsville.  The driveway to the parking lot is between the Wickstrom Law offices and the Baker Building (Dominoes Pizza).

in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her memory to The March of Dimes,  Donation Processing Center, PO Box 18819, Atlanta, GA, 31126.  The March of Dimes organization helped Joyce's family when, as a young girl, she had back surgery.
