Laura J. (Laverdiere) DeYoung passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, while surrounded by her loving family. She was 70 years old. Laura leaves two sons: William M. DeYoung and his fiancée Kristen Champoux, of Portland, CT and Peter J. DeYoung and his wife Madeline, of Douglas; a brother Paul Laverdiere and his wife Kathy, of Sutton; 8 grandchildren: Liam, Aaron, Sara, Lucas, Wesley, Layson, Mayella and Lynix; her close friend Paulette and several first cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, William S. DeYoung (Moochie), in 2015, and her dear friend Miriam, earlier this year.
A daughter of Leo and Mary (Asadoorian) Laverdiere, Laura was born in Northbridge February 27, 1952. She attended Northbridge schools until she left in her junior year. She later returned to Northbridge High School in 1995, ultimately graduating with the class of 1996, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. Laura worked at the former Beaumont Nursing Home, in Northbridge, EAW, and retired in 2016 from Pot Pourri, in Whitinsville.
From ages 12-17, Laura was a member of the Valley Airs Drum Corps color guard and participated with the 1991 alumni corps. She also participated in statewide drum corps competitions with the 1962 Chew Winks drill team. Laura enjoyed spending time at the ocean and reading. In recent years she enjoyed crochet with scrubby yarn making bath loofas and scrubbies for her family and friends. Her greatest joy was found in spending time with her sons and their families. She especially delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, having them for sleepovers and making cookies with them as well.
Laura's Funeral Mass will be Monday, December 12, 2022, at 10:30AM at Saint Mark's Church, Boston Rd., Sutton, MA. Burial with her husband in Bourne National Cemetery will be private at a later date. There are no Calling Hours.
