Laura E. (Jackman) Zibell Obituary

Laura E. (Jackman) Zibell,79, passed away on March 2, 2026, at her home in Sutton, Massachusetts. She was born on September 26, 1946, in Northbridge, Massachusetts to the late Michael and Dianne (Lemoine) Jackman. Laura dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally as a registered nurse and personally within her extensive family.


Laura is survived by her sons, Jaime Place of Whitinsville, and Liam Zibell and his wife Tracy of Sutton; a daughter, Andrea Place of Northbridge; her stepchildren, Wendy Riordan and her husband Tim of Whitinsville, and Richard Zibell Jr. and his wife Melissa of Nashua, NH, and their families; sister, Dianne Christine of Oregon; grandchildren, Chelsea, Emily, Lucas, Zach, Katie, Delaney, Ryan, Kyle, Abby, Alexa, Jesse and Michael; and 19 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Barry Place in 1971, and by her second husband, Richard Zibell in 2009, as well as her son Dennis Place, daughter-in-law Christine Place, and brothers Philip, Frank, William "Billy," and Michael Jackman.


Laura graduated from Northbridge High School and later earned an associate's degree in nursing from Quinsigamond Community College. Her career in nursing began at the former St. Camillus Rehabilitation Center and Westborough State Hospital, before she retired from Worcester State Hospital 12 years ago.


Laura enjoyed a wide range of outdoor activities. She cherished memories of camping with her family at Bass River, taking her grandchildren to camp at Salisbury Beach, and bike rides with her children during their younger years. Laura also had a passion for antiquing and thrifting, a hobby she taught her children, and enjoyed family vacations throughout the Northeast, visiting landmarks and famous sites.


Laura’s calling hours at Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 9 – 11AM followed by a service at 11AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Whitinsville.
