Mary F. Gilmore, age 93, died peacefully Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Bridges, Mashpee. She leaves her devoted husband of 70 years, Harold L. Gilmore, a son Tod Gilmore and his wife Terri, of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, a daughter Jill Koontz and her husband Ronald, of East Falmouth, and four grandchildren: Ryan and Alan Gilmore, and Gwen and Neil Koontz.
Mrs. Gilmore was born in Northbridge July 27, 1931, a daughter of Peter and Alice Mildred (Magill) Frieswyk and sister to Thomas Stewart Frieswyk who preceded her in death. She was a 1949 graduate of Northbridge High School. Mary worked in the business offices at Syracuse University, Penn State University and Marine Biological Laboratories in Woods Hole from where she retired in 1996. Mary and Harold lived an adventurous life living in Japan, Zambia, France, Zimbabwe, and Fiji. They were avid travelers visiting sites throughout the US, Africa and Europe. They enjoyed an active retirement taking yearly trips to Florida, cruises to Bermuda, Alaska, the Mississippi River, throughout the Mediterranean, and toured mainland China in 2017. Mary enjoyed reading the Bible, gourmet cooking, playing the piano, and doing a variety of crafts.
Mary was a committed follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of the Whitinsville Presbyterian Church, maintaining contact with her church even after relocating to Falmouth where she attended the First Congregational Church and John Wesley UMC in Falmouth, and more recently online with Grace Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, in Exton PA.
A Calling Hour will be held from 9:45-10:45 Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Whitinsville United Presbyterian Church, followed by a Memorial Service at 11 o'clock, on Monday, January 13, 2025. Burial will be held privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Whitinsville, 51 Cottage Street, Whitinsville, MA 01588.
