Phyllis (Holmes) Hartkopf, 88, formerly of Fairfield, CT passed away on February 15, in Belfast, ME. She is survived by her son Douglas Hartkopf (Linda), daughter Elizabeth Costello (Kieran), 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her daughter Susan Hartkopf and sister Elizabeth “Betty” Holmes.
Born in Whitinsville on March 28, 1935, she was the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Gellatly) Holmes. She grew up in Whitinsville and graduated from Northbridge High School. After high school Phyllis continued her education at Westminster College and graduated with a degree in teaching. She worked for the Fairfield, CT Public School system for many years before her retirement. She was passionate about flowers and went on to work as a floral designer until she relocated to Belfast in 2020.
She relocated to Penobscot Shores Retirement Community in Belfast, ME. She found a close network of friends and enjoyed the many opportunities the community offered. You could find her every Monday and Friday playing Mexican dominos or working in her garden during the summer.
Phyllis’s graveside service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11AM in Pine Grove Cemetery, 241 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Carr Funeral Home 24 Hill St. Whitinsville, MA.
