Roland J. Gauthier, 71, of Sutton, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, with his beloved wife Christine A. (Hagberg) Gauthier, by his side.  Roland was born in South Grafton, May 9, 1953, the son of J. Roland and Eileen E. (Deorsey) Gauthier.  He graduated from Grafton High School and furthered his education at the former New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science and Embalming, graduating in 1979. He started his long career in the funeral industry working as an embalmer and funeral director for Morin Funeral Home in Worcester, and Mulhane Home for Funerals in Millbury.  Over the years, Roland worked for several funeral homes, including Arthur S. Manzi Funeral Home in Worcester and Scanlon Funeral Home in Webster, in addition to other local funeral homes.  In 2016, he retired from funeral service.

For 55 years Roland played the organ, beginning at the age of 16 at Saint James Catholic Church in South Grafton.  He was the music director for 38 years at Our Lady of Lourdes in Worcester and retired from Saint Anne's in Oxford.  

Roland loved to vacation and travel to Carribean Islands with Christine.  He channeled his passion for trivia into running a weekly trivia night at the Tuttle Post in Auburn and at the Olde Time Inn in Millbury for the last 10 years.  He and Christine enjoyed entertaining in their home, whether for their annual New Year's Day open house, summer pool parties, or Christmas parties. Roland's excellent cooking and cocktail mixing were enjoyed by many friends and family over the years.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, Roland leaves 6 aunts, 2 uncles, 28 cousins, and many nieces and nephews.  

Calling Hours are Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 5-7PM at Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville.  Roland's Funeral Mass at Saint James Church, South Grafton, will be Wednesday, February 12, at 11AM.  Burial will be held privately at a later date.
