Whitinsville-On December 15, 2015, Roy Delmar Hamilton, 90 years old, left this world to join his beloved wife, Margaret, in heaven.  Roy passed away, after a short illness, with his loving family beside him, at home.
Roy was born in Whitinsville on August 19, 1925, a son to Aubrey and Bertha (McGray) Hamilton.  He attended local schools and joined the Navy on his 18th birthday and served on the USS Quincy at Normandy and the European front and later in the Pacific. He enjoyed telling of President Roosevelt sitting by his 5" gun turret while they brought him to the Yalta conference. For many years, he has  enjoyed his weekly phone calls with his shipmate, Bob.
In 1947, he married the love of his life, Margaret Frances Marteka.  The couple settled in Whitinsville to raise their family.
Roy worked for the Whitinsville Water Company for over 40 years as a foreman. He truly loved his work and was very much respected by his co-workers.
Roy leaves behind his devoted son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Diane, from Ashburnham, grandchildren Tammy (LeDuc) Caron and her husband Christopher, from Whitinsville, Kayla Hamilton, from Fitchburg, Cody Hamilton, from Philadelphia, PA and Connor Hamilton, from Ashburnham.  He also leaves two special great-grandchildren, Maggie Lynn and Jonathan Roy Caron, both from Whitinsville, along with his brother, Alvin and sister-in-law, Gean Hamilton, of Hopkinton, NH.  Roy also leaves a daughter, Cynthia LeDuc from Whitinsville and many nieces and nephews, good friends and neighbors.  He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, who passed away in 2012, parents, sisters Ada Todd, Wilma Partridge, Hattie “Jane” Meyers and Audrey Todd and several in-laws.
Roy enjoyed camping and traveling all over New England with his family.  He also enjoyed his many ship reunions.  This past summer, the family held a 90th Birthday party for him.   Many family members and good friends came to celebrate this special man.
The family would like to give special thanks to Darlene Chesley, who has been both Roy and Margaret’s care-giver these last several years.  She is truly “an angel on earth” to us.  We are so grateful for all the love and care she gave to these two and the support she gave to us during these difficult times.
Roy's funeral service will be Monday, December 21, at 11AM, in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.  Calling Hours are Sunday, December 20, 4-6PM, in the Carr Funeral Home.
