Ruth A. (Magill) Hoekstra, 93, died Sunday, March 2, 2025, at CareOne in Millbury, while surrounded by her loving family. She leaves a son, Stephen Hoekstra and his wife Silla, of Newport, ME; two daughters: Laurie Tetreault and her husband Joey, of Warren, MA, and Dee Recore and her wife Karen, of Middletown, RI; an honorary daughter, Karlene Bolivar, of Whitinsville; 7 grandchildren: Jeremy, Joseph, Jesse, Nicole, Matthew, Samuel, and Lydia; and 11 great grandchildren. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband Harold P. Hoekstra in 2011.

  Born July 22, 1931, in Whitinsville, Ruth was the only child of Samuel and Ruth (McQuilken) Magill. She was a 1949 graduate of Northbridge High School.  After graduation, Ruth attended the former Ward Airline School, in Worcester before moving with her cousin Mary to Brooklyn, NY.  While living in the city, Ruth worked as a reservation agent for American Airlines for several years, before she returned to Whitinsville. After her return she worked as a clerk at the former Whitin Machine Works until her retirement in 1982. Ruth was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church in Whitinsville.

 Ruth loved socializing with her family and friends, always entertaining in her home. She loved her Sunday rides with her children, watching planes take off at the local airports and getting ice cream. She enjoyed her dogs and cats, taking trips to the casino with friends, playing Jenga, cribbage, word games and especially doing improv skits and singing karaoke with her neighbors at the Linwood Mill Apartments.

Ruth's calling hours will be on Friday, March 7, from 10 - 11A.M at the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, followed by a service at 11 A.M. Burial at Pine Grove Cemetery in Whitinsville will be held at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to Overlook Hospice, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, MA 01507.
