Ryan Matthew Tvelia, 32, died Sunday, April 20, 2025. He leaves two sons: Declan and Jameson Tvelia, of Sutton; his mother Lynne Costigan and her fiancée Thomas Nevue, of Whitinsville; two brothers: Kevin Costigan and his girlfriend Kristen Lambert, of Whitinsville and Joshua Costigan, Sr., and his wife Jennifer, of Uxbridge; a sister Jessica Costigan Baltramaitis and her husband Steven, of Kalispell, Montana; his girlfriend, Jes Mason, of Webster, with whom he lived; and the mother of his sons, Laura (Bessette) Tvelia, of Sutton. In addition, Ryan leaves an uncle Brian Tvelia and his significant other Linda Dias-Phaneuf, of Woonsocket, RI; an aunt Kate Athearn and her husband Brian, of West Tisbury, MA; several cousins, and four very close family friends who are family: Robyn Pierce and her husband Art, of Exeter, NH; Carrie Shaw, of Upton; Kristin Anderson Carpenter, of Ball Ground, GA; and DJ Spencer, of Palm Coast, FL. He was predeceased by his father David Costigan in 2023, his grandmother Janice Tvelia-Schiltz, his grandfather Kevin Carley, and his godmother Margaret Care.
Born August 19, 1992, in Worcester, Ryan attended the Milford Schools and graduated from Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School where he was in the auto body program. For three years after high school, he worked at Cybex International in Medway, then in 2016 he began working as a Gas Technician for National Grid, Local 369. He served as a volunteer/call fire fighter for the Town of Northbridge from 2010-2016, assigned to the Ladder Truck.
Ryan liked spending time outdoors, especially hunting and ice fishing. He was an avid participant of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, most recently practicing in Webster and previously at the former Mat Monsters in Whitinsville. He enjoyed grilling/smoking and attending metal concerts with friends. His most cherished past time was being with his boys, whether tossing the ball, helping coach Declan's baseball team, or playing with Jameson. His sons were the light in his life.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, a period of visitation will be held from 4-7PM, at Carr Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Declan and Jameson Tvelia Education Fund, c/o Unibank, Church St., Whitinsville, MA 01588.
