Thalia Oosterman Obituary

Thalia Dorothy (Ashworth) Oosterman, 84, of Northbridge, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

She was born in Northbridge in 1939, to Anne (Westra) and Herbert Ashworth.  She lived in Northbridge her entire life and graduated from Northbridge High School in 1956.  It was there that she met and later married her lifelong love and beloved husband Jim Oosterman.  Jim and Thalia were proud to have recently celebrated their sixty fourth wedding anniversary in October.

Thalia graduated from nursing school and worked at Memorial Hospital and UMASS in Worcester for many years.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a friend to all she met.  She made the world a better place with her unconditional love and compassionate spirit.  She will be dearly missed by her friends at the Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center in Sutton.  The entire Oosterman family would like to extend their gratitude for the exceptional care which Thalia received there over the past few years.

A former Girl Scout, avid reader and puzzle maker, she was also talented with needlepoint and Swedish weaving. Thalia enjoyed time spent sailing on calm seas and spending the winter months with friends in Nokomis, Florida.

Perhaps Thalia's greatest legacy is her remarkable family.  A loving wife, devoted mother, confidant, and best friend, Thalia is survived by her husband Jim; son Steve, daughter-in-law Kathy; daughter Karen Barkin, son-in-law Steve; daughter Wendy Hagarty, son-in-law Ted; son Wayne; daughter Holli, son-in-law Freddy; daughter Jean; daughter Jodi Barnard, son-in-law Jimmy; daughter Bridget Barber; son Ron Clouatre, and daughter-in-law Heather.  Thalia was predeceased by her beloved daughter Alice.

In addition, Thalia leaves 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren whose lives were enriched by this remarkable woman, each one holding a special place in her heart; her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.  Each one treasured their time spent visiting on Cooper Road.

A selfless mom and wife, Thalia opened her heart and her home to many over the years.  She considered all who passed through members of her beloved family.

In keeping with her wishes, funeral services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center, 10a Galaxy Pass, Sutton, MA 01590.
