Thelma R. Baker Obituary

Thelma R. Baker, age 93, died peacefully Monday, October 6, 2025. A daughter of Carl and Gertrude (Vandersea) Baker, Thelma was born in Whitinsville, January 21, 1932.  She leaves her sister, Carol Baker, with whom she lived; brothers Kenneth Baker of Walnut Grove, California, and James Baker of Manchaug; three nieces: Jennifer, Kristin (Doug), and Heidi (Justin); her nephew Mark, and several great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother WIlliam, in 2018.  Thelma grew up in the Manchaug section of Sutton and graduated in 1949 from Sutton High School.  After graduation, she worked as a tracer for 19 years at the Whitin Machine Works, until they moved operations to the South.  She later worked as a receptionist for the former White and Bagley Company, then at Premium Finance (a division of the Hanover Group), both in Worcester, and retired in 1999.  


A longtime and active member of the Salem Covenant Church in Worcester, Thelma sang in the choir, was a member of the Covenant Women and Membership Care.  Thelma and Carol traveled for many years together enjoying cruises throughout Europe, to Aruba and the Caribbean, and visiting Italy. 


Thelma's family would like to thank Salmon Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided to both Thelma and the family.


Services and burial in South Sutton Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Salem Covenant Church, 215 Mountain Street, Worcester, MA 01606; the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741; or to the Alzheimer Association, 320 Nevada Street, Newton, MA 02460.
