Thomas C. Young Obituary

Thomas C. Young, 66, passed unexpectedly Tuesday, April 29, 2025. He leaves his cherished wife Shelley Rivelli; his children: Tommy Adams and his significant other Jessica Carter, of Putnam, CT; Sally Adams, of Whitinsville; Berry Adams, of Whitinsville; Samuel Young and his wife Courtney, of Whitinsville; Asia Young, of New Hampshire; Haley Guinan and her husband Mike Cacciola, of Worcester; Christopher and Benjamin Rivelli, of Northbridge; two brothers: Jeffrey  Young and his wife Regina, of Upton, and Gary  Young and his wife Lauri, of Millbury; three grandchildren: Charlotte, Nathan, and Addie; three nieces and one nephew.

Born October 12, 1958, in Worcester, to Raymond T. and Estelle O. (St. Pierre) Young, he grew up in Northbridge where he graduated in 1976 from Northbridge High School and attended Worcester State College. To say Tom loved basketball is an understatement; basketball was his life.  Not only was he a standout player in high school and college, but he ran the Northbridge Summer League for 30 years and was a constant presence at the Saturday morning basketball league at “The Gym”.  Golf was also a big part of Tom’s life; whether working with the grounds crew at Whitinsville Golf Club for many years, as his father did before him, or coaching the state title winning 1984 Northbridge High School golf team that included his younger brother, Gary.  Not only was Tom an avid Boston sports fan, but he enjoyed following minor league baseball and the players, tracking players as they developed in their careers.

Most of the Tom’s work life was spent at National Grid as a meter man, a career he retired from after 30 years.  Prior to National Grid, he worked for the Town of Northbridge Highway Department.  He also delivered the newspaper for many years developing friendships with several customers along his route.

Tom was a friend to everyone he met, and those friendships spanned generations. Shelley would tell you that if you knew Tom, he loved you.  He and Shelley shared a mutual love for Ogunquit, Maine.  They spent many days walking the beaches and exploring the area while enjoying each other’s company. He never wore shoes, rarely knew where his flip phone was, and ALWAYS WROTE IN CAPITAL LETTERS.  Tom loved his home, the town of Northbridge, and raising his children in the love of God and connecting with them through sports.

The Valley Chapel in Uxbridge was Tom’s spiritual home for the last 21 years.  He participated in many trips with the church, including visiting Greece, and was an active member of the Men’s Ministry. Tom enjoyed music, singing, and singing in the choir, especially for the holiday musicals.  Tom’s love of Jesus surpassed all else; he openly shared his faith and his faith journey with countless people over the years.

Calling Hours are Friday, May 9, 2025, from 4-7PM at the Valley Chapel 14 Hunter Rd, Uxbridge.  Tom's Funeral will be Saturday, May 10 at 1PM at the Valley Chapel.  After cremation, inurnment will be in the Memorial Garden at the Valley Chapel.
