Walter J. Harris, 95, died Tuesday, February 23. His wife of 62 years, June (Briggs) Harris, predeceased him in 2015. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl E. Harris, of Northbridge and Tina M. Fish, with whom he lived: four grandchildren, David J. Harris, Cory A. Harris, Michael T. Fish and Cody T. Fish; 3 great grandchildren and a sister, Lillian Turcotte, in Florida. He was looking forward to the birth of his fourth great grandchild, next month. He is also predeceased by 10 siblings.
Walter was born September 17, 1925, a son of Edward and Elizabeth (Whitaker) Harris, in Uxbridge, where he grew up and attended school. He lived in Whitinsville for more than 50 years prior to moving to Millbury in 2015 after his wife's passing.
As a young man Walter enjoyed working with his brother Ray, at his garage, Ray's Texaco. However, his career was spent as a weaver, working for many local textile mills, including Haywood Shuster, in Douglas and the Stanley Woolen Mill, in Uxbridge. He retired in 1984, when the Stanley Woolen Mill closed down. He was a United States Navy veteran.
Walter loved dancing with June. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and liked salt water fishing. In more recent years, he enjoyed watching day time television-especially Judge Judy. "Puppy" will be missed by his daughters and grandchildren.
Honoring Walter's wishes, there are no services.
