Douglas ... Robert J. Gauthier, 79, died Thursday, February 21, in the UMass Memorial Medical Center,Worcester, following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Blair, of Whitinsville, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Oscar, Raymond, and Arthur Gauthier, and by his sister, Lillian Houle.
Mr. Gauthier was born in Northbridge, October 30, 1932, a son of Peter and Lea (Boucher) Gauthier, and lived there until moving to Douglas 25 years ago. He was a graduate of Northbridge High School.
He was a security guard at the former Whitin Machine Works for many years, until it closed, and then he worked at the Fenwal Company, in Ashland.
An Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Gauthier belonged to the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A graveside committal service will be held in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Whitinsville, on a date to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Activities Fund at the Saint Camilus Health Center, 447 Hill Street, Whitinsville, MA, 01588.
