Whitinsville—Dorothy A. Beccia died Thursday, August 25, in the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center.  She was 89.  She is survived by her brother George Antoine, in Michigan; six nieces, including Joyce Danelius and her husband Chet, of Sutton, and Joan Ouellette, of Northbridge; and many great nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Beccia,  in 1988; and her brothers Harry Antorian, Vagarshag Antoian and John Torosian.

Dot was born in Northbridge June 7, 1927, a daughter of Oscar and Mary (Kachadorian) Antoian.  After graduation from Northbridge High School in 1945, she went to work as a secretary at the Whitin Machine Works for nearly 20 years before working at Filene’s Department Store in Worcester until she retired in the early 1990’s.

Although Dot and Nick never had any children of their own, she was always involved in the lives of young people.  She was a Sunday School teacher at the Village Congregational Church from 1944-1988 and youth group leader, volunteered annually with Vacation Bible School, was a Girl Scout Leader, a volunteer and substitute teacher in the Northbridge Public Schools and active in the Rainbow Girls, to name just a few.  In her younger years she played in many local sports leagues including bowling and women’s softball.

Dot was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a more than 50 year member of the Village Congregational Church, where in addition to teaching Sunday school, she served on almost every committee at one time or another.  Dot was an energetic person who enjoyed being busy. She had friends of all ages and will be missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 8, at 11:00AM, in  the Village Congregational Church, Whitinsville. Burial will be private.  Please omit flowers.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC, 20090
